Whenever we switch on the TV, we are thrilled to see those beautiful big and spacious living rooms decorated with precious artifacts. However, for the owner of a large living room, it is really challenging to decorate the place. There is so much space but if you don’t place all the furniture and decorative items strategically, it will either look too clumsy or too empty.
On the other hand, most of your guests will stay in that room only. So, you need to decorate in such a way that it will reflect your taste, standard, and aesthetic sense. So, you must know the trick when it comes to decorating a huge and spacious living room.
- Choosing the right color for your large living room is very important as it has a huge impact on your psychology. Depending on the theme of your living room you have to choose the color for walls so that they match well with furniture, rugs, curtains, and other accessories of the room. One simple rule in selecting the shade for your large room is to
choose warm and bright colors for the walls to give it a cozier feel. Use at least two contrasting bright colors to paint different walls of the same room to give it a cozier look. Never go for cool colors. It will make your large room look larger, and will give a feel of lack of warmth. Hang bright-colored curtains to match your walls. Floral or geometric print curtains go well in a bigger room. Make arrangements of light in such a way that it gives a warm look. Yellow tone light goes well in a larger room than that of white or bluish tone. - In a larger living room, you have one plus point that you do not have to compromise with space. If your pocket permits you can buy anything for the room. Divide the large space of a living room judiciously. Divide it into a sitting zone, work zone, game zone, a dining area, and a reading zone, and then buy the furniture accordingly.
- Keep a huge and comfortable sofa set in the sitting area. A decorative huge couch may add beauty to your room. Place a daybed there in the living room to increase the usability of the room. When there is a vast unused space there in the room, keep an L-sectional sofa to fill up the gap. Keep one console table either behind the sofa or at the entryway where the space is narrow. They can be used as bars, vanities, or desks.
- Create your small work zone. Keep a desktop and computer chair and a table in that place. By the side of the work zone, you can keep the reading space. If you can arrange your reading section by the side of the window, at day time you will get natural sunlight to read the books. It will save electricity. A good quality table lamp is a must in your reading zone. Keep bookcases in your reading nook to keep your favorite books. Place these bookcases in a way that they play the role of the divider to add some privacy to your reading corner.
- Place the different colored rug in a different section to differentiate the zones from each other. Console tables can also be used wisely to demark a different zone in the same room. Despite placing so many things, if you feel that the room is looking empty, place a window seat or slipper chair. You can place some indoor plants here and there to add a fresh look. Hang paintings, or well-framed photographs on the walls of the living room to make the walls of the room more attractive.
